According to the data on road traffic accidents published by the Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the Indonesian National Police, one of the main causes of road traffic accidents in the country is negligence by vehicle users.
In addition to violating traffic signs and regulations, negligence occurs when vehicle users fail to understand or ignore conditions or situations that may compromise road safety. One of them is the blind spots of large vehicles, such as trucks and buses.
The risk of accidents increases when the driver is unaware of the potential dangers in the vehicle’s blind spots. If drivers of nearby vehicles ignore the potential danger as well, accidents may occur.

Blind spots are areas around a vehicle that its driver or passengers cannot see. Vehicles in these areas should be aware of the potential danger that might lead to accidents.
Therefore, every road user must understand and be more mindful of the blind spotsto prevent potential dangers. Below are four blind spots in trucks, buses, or other large vehicles that you need to avoid.
This area is the most difficult one for the driver to see, particularly when the truck is fully loaded. More often than not, the driver fails to notice other vehicles behind.
This area is invisible to the driver, especially in the case of load overhangs. When making a turn or changing lanes, the driver is often unable to see other vehicles on the right side of the road.

The area on the left side of large vehicles, like trucks or buses, poses a hazard to other vehicles. Like in the case of the right side of the vehicle, the driver often cannot see other vehicles that are too close to them, especially when turning left.
Lastly, the area under the windshield is a blind spot that obstructs the driver’s ability to see smaller vehicles, such as motorcycles or bicycles, that are too close.
Those are some of the blind spots of large vehicles you need to avoid. Being attentive and exercising care is essential when you are driving. Always prioritize safety, obey the traffic rules, and stay away from any potential dangers.
