The traffic volume along the Tangerang-Merak toll road in the first half of 2018 increased by 2.13%. On average, the number of cars that pass the toll road every day is estimated to be 137,432. This might be a sign of improving Indonesian economy.
“The figure is in line with the 5.95% economic growth of the province of Banten in the first quarter of 2018. Compared to the previous year, this growth is higher by 0.05% than 5.90%,” Tangerang-Merak toll road operator Marga Mandala Sakti Operations Division Head Ega N. Boga said, as quoted from BisnisIndonesia.com (July 19).
Moreover, the growth in traffic volume is supported by the addition of eight Automatic Toll Booths (known as GTOs) at the Cikupa Toll Gate, two at East Balaraja Toll Gate, and two at West Balaraja Toll Gate.
GTOs have also been installed in other toll gates along the road: two each at Cikande, East Serang, West Serang, East Cilegon, and West Cilegon Toll Gates. In total, there are 23 GTOs installed along the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road.
Besides the installment of new toll booths, service improvement is also carried out by adding a new lane from Cikupa KM 31+200 to West Balaraja KM 39+200. Where there were only three lanes, now there are four, to increase the convenience of toll users.
As for the vehicles that cross the toll road, Ega explained that 76.97% of them are of Group I, 12.70% of Group II, 6.65% of Group III, 1.94% of Group IV, and 1.75% of Group V.
The increase of traffic volume hit its peak in June (3.4%), thanks to the Eid al-Fitr homebound trips. However, an increase of 3.04% was also observed in February.
