The Logistics Sector is the Most Preferred Sector of Local and International Developers in the Midst of Covid-19 Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic significantly impacts many business sectors, and many business players must work extra hard to survive. But that is not the case for the logistics business sector, as this sector has become the most preferred business sector of both local and international developers.

The logistics sector has shown its resilience amid the pandemic, and the demand for rental service is still going strong in quarter II of 2020. On the other hand, the property business is going through a hardship in the form of decreasing consumer, declining sale and rent prices, as well as the relocation of a number of tenants.

The retail sector is also heavily impacted, as the majority of malls closed down or operated in a limited capacity from March to June. Only several stores and certain services stayed open. With such condition, rental activity slowed down and only a handful of new rental agreements were agreed upon during this quarter.

However, it seems that rental growth during the last few years will be temporarily halted as mall operators and tenants make some adjustments in the adaptation phase of the new normal period.

Instead of Property Business, the Logistics Sector Now Holds a Lot of Opportunities (h2)

Before the pandemic, the property business was the favorite of local and international developers. However, after the pandemic, the logistics sector becomes the favorite instead. This is because the logistics sector holds a lot of opportunities on the socio-economic side.

The logistics sector has also shown its resilience amid the pandemic, and the demand for rental service is still going strong in quarter II of 2020. Operators and developers also show a high interest in the development of data centers. Data center is a relatively new market segment in Indonesia, and a number of operators are aiming for more strategic industrial areas and locations in the center of a city.
