PT Serasi Autoraya (SERA) successfully planted 1,500 mangrove trees at the Mangrove Center Mangunharjo, Semarang. This planting took place on Thursday, 24 August 2022, led by Hengky Setiawan as the Head of the Central Java-DIY TRAC Branch. In this activity, all SERA group lines of business in Semarang, i.e. TRAC, mobil88 IBID, and Selog Semarang, attended and participated in the mangrove tree planting event. This program was one of SERA's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities as a part of continuous attempt to implement and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 13 and 15 on climate change and terrestrial ecosystems.
Trees play a very important role in the efforts to reduce the increase in greenhouse gases caused by global warming and climate change, as trees are capable of absorbing carbon dioxide released from activities by humans and other living organisms.
"The mangrove planting program is one of SERA's efforts to prevent abrasions in Semarang coastal areas, in line with SDGs 13 and 15 on climate change and terrestrial ecosystems," said Hengky Setiawan.
The mangrove trees planted at the event were of Rhizophora seed, which would be constantly monitored in a sustainable manner. The selection of such seed had also taken into account the substrates, the local community culture, and the seed’s advantages. The Rhizophora seed was superior since it has denser and more robust roots, allowing it to deal with abrasions in coastal areas.
