2. Suzuki Ertiga

The Suzuki Ertiga has stood out as one of the most economical MPVs since its first release in 2012. Suzuki launched the second-generation Ertiga in 2018, featuring several updates and enhancements.


It uses a 1,462 cc engine producing 103 hp and 138 Nm of torque. You can opt for either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Alongside the standard gasoline model, a hybrid version is available, which is said to be more fuel-efficient.


The Ertiga is known for its fuel efficiency, achieving 14 km/l in urban areas and 18 km/l on highways. The hybrid model is even more outstanding, delivering 20–22 km/l.


3. Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia

The Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia are identical mechanically. The only differences are minor variations in accessories, features, and slight design changes. Both are among the best-selling cars of all time in Indonesia.


This is because Avanza and Xenia are known for their reliability and affordability. They come with two engine options: a 1,329 cc engine (97 hp and 122 Nm of torque) and a 1,496 cc engine (105 hp and 141 Nm of torque).


They also offer two transmission choices: a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic. For fuel use, the 1.3 engine can get 16 km/l in the city and even hit 19 km/l on the highway! The 1.5 engine’s consumption is not far behind, at 15 km/l in the city and 18 km/l on the highway.

4. Mitsubishi Xpander

The Xpander is a strong model for Mitsubishi in the MPV category. This car is known for its bold and modern design. Its main strength is that its comfort level, especially its suspension, is among the best in its class.


It is powered by a 1,499 cc engine that outputs 104 hp and 141 Nm of torque. It comes with a choice of a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. The Xpander also has good fuel economy, getting 15 km/l in the city and 18 km/l on the highway.


5. Daihatsu Sigra and Toyota Calya

The Daihatsu Sigra and Toyota Calya are another pair of twin models. They are among the best-selling MPVs in Indonesia because they are in the LCGC class, making them more affordable than the Xenia and Avanza.


The Sigra offers explicitly two engine choices: a 998 cc engine (66 hp and 89 Nm of torque) and a 1,197 cc engine (87 hp and 108 Nm of torque). Meanwhile, the Calya is only available with the 1,197 cc engine.


Both cars offer the same two transmission options, which are a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic. There is no doubt about their fuel efficiency. The 1.2 engine can get 17 km/l in the city and nearly 21 km/l on the highway.
