Staying Fit While Fasting: Exercise Recommendations

People often skip exercising during Ramadan fasting due to dehydration.

A common complaint during fasting is feeling weak, as the body goes without food and water intake for roughly 12 hours, causing an empty stomach and low blood sugar.

However, it’s possible to stay active during Ramadan. You can do lighter exercises as recommended below.

10 Exercise to Do While Fasting

1. Cycling

Cycling regularly has many benefits for physical and mental health. These benefits range from reducing the risk of depression and helping to overcome insomnia to increasing muscle strength and controlling weight.

However, while fasting, lower your cycling intensity to prevent excessive sweating. Simply cycle in the afternoon for 1 hour to keep your body fit.

2. Leisurely Walk

Although it seems simple, a leisurely walk has benefits that are no less than other sports, especially for the health of heart muscles and bones. To minimize fatigue, it’s best to take a leisurely walk in the late afternoon, nearing iftar time.

3. Yoga

Yoga is an exercise that combines mind and body. This exercise consists of several types, namely Ashtanga yoga, Bikram yoga, Hatha yoga, Iyengar yoga, and many more.

During fasting, yoga can be an option because it helps to overcome weakness and dizziness. It can also improve blood circulation to the brain.

4. Treadmill and jogging

Treadmills and jogging are types of exercise that can help the body’s metabolism. These exercises are not as high-impact as running, so they’re ideal to do while fasting. But it’s advisable to take a leisurely walk first until your body is ready for jogging or a treadmill.

5. Skipping or jumping rope

Skipping or jumping rope is perfect for Ramadan vibes because of its low intensity. This exercise promotes heart muscle health, helps improve stamina, and supports respiratory health, keeping you from getting tired easily.

6. Zumba

This exercise, which focuses on aerobic movement, is good for heart muscle health and can be an alternative to relieve stress after a day. In addition, Zumba is perfect for healthy weight loss.

7. Cardio Exercise

Cardio or cardiovascular exercise is a series of physical activities that can help increase the strength of the heart, lungs, and muscles. This exercise can be done while fasting because of its light intensity.

You can do cardio exercises at home, for example, by going up and down stairs, squats, or running in place. Do it for no more than 30 minutes to avoid dehydration and fatigue.

8. Pilates

You can choose pilates as a relaxing exercise while waiting for the iftar. This exercise is beneficial for improving body posture and reducing stress.

But remember always to follow expert instructions to avoid the risk of injury from incorrect movements. Warm up first before doing any exercise, including pilates.

9. Squat

This exercise helps train endurance and body strength. Do it 10 times in 4 sets. Squats are best done before iftar and before suhoor, so the body stays fit.

10. Climbing Stairs

Although it is considered simple and easy, this exercise can cause dehydration when not balanced with sufficient water intake. When fasting, you can do this for 10 minutes to keep your body fit.

It’s recommended to do this exercise before iftar to restore body stamina that may have decreased during a day of fasting.

Those are some of the exercises that you can do while fasting. By exercising, the body will feel fitter and healthier, thus helping you to be productive at the workplace.

However, employees’ productivity is also influenced by their work environment. So, make sure the company where you work has a positive work culture and clear career prospects. Choose a company with a good reputation and credibility in its field, such as PT Serasi Autoraya, or SERA.
