SERA Celebrates World Mangrove Day with Tree-Planting Activities and Eco-Batik

This event also served as a platform for collaboration with faculty from Al-Azhar University Indonesia, the Director of the Angke Kapuk Nature Tourism Park, and environmental activist Jeremi Owen to explore the role of mangroves and identify their potential to bring added value to the community.

Sustainable environmental management can bring broader benefits—not only to ecosystems but also to surrounding communities.

PT Serasi Autoraya (SERA) embodied this spirit during its celebration of World Mangrove Day on July 26, 2026, at the Angke Kapuk Nature Tourism Park (TWA).

This event also served as a platform for collaboration with faculty from Al-Azhar University Indonesia, the Director of the Angke Kapuk Nature Tourism Park, and environmental activist Jeremi Owen to explore the role of mangroves and identify their potential to bring added value to the community.

The benefits of mangroves were introduced through an Eco-Batik educational session. Participants were invited to learn how to utilize waste products from the Rhizophora mangrove species—such as dried propagules, bark, and fallen branches—as natural dyes for both hand-drawn and stamped batik.

“Mangrove conservation isn’t enough through planting alone; it must also be accompanied by an understanding of their functions and benefits. Through this activity, we hope that more parties will become involved in preserving the mangrove ecosystem while utilizing it wisely and sustainably,” said Ken Savitri, Managing Director of the Angke Kapuk TWA management team.

SERA Corporate General Affairs, Social Responsibility, Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (CGASRHSSE) Division Head Happy Putro Wibowo, who attended the event, also shared his experiences regarding sustainability practices at SERA.

“For SERA, environmental responsibility is also reflected in how sustainability principles are applied in our daily activities. In our office environment, one of our programs is to continuously encourage all employees to develop habits that are more environmentally conscious, such as through waste management and recycling,” said Happy.

The series of activities concluded with a mangrove seedling planting initiative in the TWA Mangrove conservation area as a concrete step toward preserving the coastal ecosystem.

Through this event, SERA hopes that environmental awareness will continue to grow into collective action that not only preserves ecosystems but also brings sustainable benefits to the surrounding communities.
