Both passenger and freight transportation services play a crucial strategic role in social and economic life.
Passenger transportation services have made it easier for people to remain mobile so they can engage in activities such as socializing and running their businesses.
Meanwhile, freight transportation services have also significantly contributed to the growth of the economy. The more superior the transportation service, whether in terms of comfort, speed, or accuracy, the better the impact it will have on the community and the country’s economy.
However, a transportation company should place safety first above all other considerations. This is what an enterprise customer in particular should look for when deciding to use a service from a transportation company.
The more secure the transportation employed to move raw materials or manufactured goods is, in addition to providing higher levels of swiftness and effectiveness, the more profit the company will make.
Because safety is crucial, the government has mandated that every public transportation provider implement their safety management system as a standard instrument for ensuring governance in their day-to-day operations.
“Every public transportation company is required to implement a safety management system,” said the Director of Land Transportation Safety of the Directorate-General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation of Indonesia, Hotma Simanjuntak, recently.
He added that a public transportation company should ensure the following five safety management aspects: regulation, driver, vehicle, maintenance of vehicles, and the management of safety itself.
Regulation of the Minister of Transportation (Permenhub) Number 85 of 2018 concerning Safety Management System of Public Transportation Company (SMKPAU) lays out relevant provisions for safety management in the transportation sector.
The regulation specifies that every transportation service provider is required to establish and implement an adequate safety management system in their business operations.
To minimize the risk of road accidents, there are at least 10 important aspects a transportation company should ensure:
commitment and policies,
risk and hazard management,
motor vehicle maintenance and repair,
recordkeeping and data,
internal accident reporting,
monitoring and evaluation, and
Law Number 22 of 2009, which aims to promote the improvement of both performance and implementation of the management of road transportation safety and traffic safety, in fact regulates safety management systems (SMS).
Article 203 clause 1 stipulates that the government is responsible for ensuring the safety of traffic and road transportation. Article 204 clause 1 requires public transportation companies to develop, implement, and enhance their safety management system.
Furthermore, Article 141 clause 1 mandates that public transportation companies meet minimum service standards, which include standards on security, safety, convenience, accessibility, equality, and orderliness.
With the aforementioned regulations in place, it is important to maintain and strengthen the commitment to safety management systems, with the ultimate goal of lowering traffic accidents.
Among the companies that have been able to pull it off consistently over the years is PT Serasi Autoraya (SERA).
What is the evidence? The Directorate-General of Land Transportation recently certified one of SERA’s subsidiaries, PT United Automobil Sembilanpuluh Utama (UAS), for its satisfactory SMKPAU through its service, TRAC Bus.
SERA is renowned as one of the largest transportation and logistics companies in Indonesia. The business has expanded consistently since its inception. Initially founded as a business specializing in vehicle rental solutions, SERA has become the largest, industry-leading transportation service provider.
SERA now has a wide range of products and services to choose from, including car and passenger vehicle rental solutions marketed under the TRAC brand and a network of popular used car dealerships, mobil88, to SERA Logistik (SELOG), which provides freight transportations services, and an auction house operating as IBID.
SERA also taps into the power of advanced IT systems to create an end-to-end transportation management solution called the Astra Fleet Management System (Astra FMS). This service enables effective, efficient, and safe fleet management.
Astra FMS has provided a tried-and-true foundation for many of SERA’s products. It offers users a variety of helpful features designed for fleet management.
Customers have access to real-time vehicle monitoring and performance analytics for drivers. These features reduce downtime and optimize vehicle maintenance costs.
